This class will explore the evolving legal landscape around workplace rights and responsibilities in live performance. Topics include:

- Employee vs. independent contractor status, with a focus on dancer misclassification
- Workplace safety and culture, from physical hazards to privacy concerns
- Wage and hour compliance in performance settings
- The limits of nondisclosure agreements and Actors’ Equity’s current position
- Discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in casting and employment practices
- Abuse and bullying in rehearsal and performance environments
- Immigration and work authorization for international artists
- Arbitration clauses in performer and staff contracts
- The impact of social media on employment disputes
- Pay transparency requirements for producers and employers
- The use of AI in hiring and casting decisions
- Connections between employment law and intellectual property disputes
