Are you an inventor who is interested in applying for a patent? This class will cover what is involved in applying for a patent and how the VLA/USPTO Patent Pro Bono Program may be able to assist you. We will cover the purpose of applying for a design and/or utility patent, and why you might want to protect your invention with a federally-registered patent. We will also cover essential deadlines that you need to know about and what the patent examiner will be looking for in your application. We will review how to do a prior art search, what costs you can expect, and what procedural events you will need to understand (e.g., Office Actions), and what resources are available to help you.
