“Fashion is very important. It is life-enhancing and, like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well.” Fashion transcends mere fabric; it is a canvas for self-expression and a conduit for conveying our identities to the world. However, pioneering in fashion is no easy feat. It demands significant investments in creating and promoting new designs, with no assurance of success. In contrast, imitation is a much easier path. So, how do we safeguard this realm of creativity and expression? In this class, we will explore the evolving legal landscape for fashion designers and the legal tools designers can leverage to protect their designs, specifically copyright, trademark, and patent law. We will also touch briefly on legal issues related to contracts, commercial transactions, and employment law within the industry. Sign up and join us in “fashioning the law” on Monday, April 22, 2024.
