Exploring Legal Issues and Gender Inclusion in Theater with TAP

Presented by the Theatre Advocacy Project (TAP) in collaboration with VLA, this workshop is an opportunity to learn about DEI and HR in the arts, while also being introduced to the resources available through TAP.

Topics covered include:

• Courageous space agreements
• Social identity
• Intersectionality
• Important considerations for transgender and gender nonconforming workers
• Creating welcoming and accessible spaces for all abilities, artists, audiences, and staff
• Resources for de-escalating incidents of harm as a bystander, manager, and target, as well as how to report and when to get a lawyer involved.

TAP is an external HR and equity diversity and inclusion service that empowers theatre leaders to create safe and equitable working conditions for all. Their suite of tools includes workshops, anonymous whistle-blower reporting, handbook, accountability partner consulting sessions, rehearsal sessions, surveys & data on workplace culture, and our online institute of anti-oppressive learning modules. Through this suite of tools they provide certification and training to artists and organizations committed to shifting towards accountable workplace culture.
