With COVID-19’s disruption of the art world, alternative fundraising platforms like GoFundMe, Patreon, and Kickstarter offer ways for artists and arts organizations to fund projects, connect with audiences, or even just keep the lights on. This class will offer an overview of the legal implications and potential challenges that an artist or organization should keep in mind when turning to alternative fundraising opportunities. Areas covered will include intellectual property, contract issues, and financial considerations.
