Even experienced documentary filmmakers have misconceptions about the impact of copyright law on their projects. Taking the Mystery out of Copyright for Documentary Filmmakers is designed to enable non-lawyers, as well as lawyers who have limited experience in the subject, to understand how copyright law – with a particular focus on fair use – affects documentary film projects. In this three-hour, intensive seminar, Ms. Shatzkin will guide you through the subject by reviewing relevant statutes and court cases and sharing clips of real-world examples. The class will also cover practical considerations that filmmakers should keep in mind when using others’ copyrighted material.
