On-Demand Recording: Lamps, Amps, and Registration Stamps: Intellectual Property Protections for Functional Design

Length: 1 h 20 min

This is an on-demand recording of VLA’s Webinar: Lamps, Amps, and Registration Stamps: Intellectual Property Protections for Functional Design held on April 23, 2020.

This program is presented in celebration of World IP Week and in partnership with the Copyright Alliance.

About this program:

Attention artists and creators in the design industry: did you know that functional designs don’t receive the same intellectual property protection as other types of art? In this presentation, we provide a basic overview of copyright, trademark, and design patent law, using examples from the worlds of furniture, musical instruments, fashion, and housewares. We will discuss what types of intellectual property protection can apply to different types of useful designs, and how creators can secure appropriate protection.
