Attorneys who cannot attend in person must complete this 21-minute video orientation to be eligible to take on VLA cases.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with VLA! To volunteer to take a pro bono case, we require that attorneys hear a brief orientation, which explains who we are, who our clients are, what types of issues we handle, and what it means to take on a pro bono case with VLA. We’ll also discuss some other opportunities for attorneys to get involved. Orientation sessions are held monthly at VLA’s office in midtown Manhattan, but this webinar orientation is available for attorneys who cannot attend in person.
Please note the following requirements for all attorneys performing volunteer work through VLA:
1. All volunteer attorneys MUST be covered by their own or their employer’s legal malpractice insurance policy for volunteer work.
2. Attorneys must be admitted to practice in the relevant jurisdiction for at least three years. Attorneys who do not fulfill this requirement must have a supervising attorney who has been admitted to practice in the relevant jurisdiction for at least three years. Volunteers are responsible for securing their own supervising attorney, and VLA is unable to serve as attorneys’ supervisor.
