How to Navigate the IRS and the New York State and New York City Tax Departments – What You Need to Know

July 12 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

You know that feeling…you open your mail and see a Tax Notice from either the IRS, New York State or New York City and your stomach tightens and your heart sinks. Now what?

As a self-employed artist or the owner of an arts-related business, navigating the tax system can be difficult, especially when so much is at stake. Our speakers Laurie B. Kazenoff, Esq. and Michelle E. Espey, Esq. have close to 50 years of combined experience in tax dispute resolution, dealing directly with the IRS, New York State and New York City to help taxpayers resolve their tax issues.  They will explain how the tax system works, what tools the government has to audit you or to collect taxes from you, what tools you have to resolve your matter, and what you can do to protect yourself. They will take the mystery and fear out of the process and impart information every taxpayer, including artists, should know. Attorneys can benefit by gaining a better understanding of how to counsel artists and arts organizations on tax issues, as well as anyone looking to get a better understanding of the tax system and how to handle associated difficult scenarios.
