Alternative Dispute Resolution for Artists: What It Is and How It’s Changed

October 23, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Hands and Puzzle Pieces/Collaboration

Location: Online

When it comes to the legal process, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is an important topic for artists. Join VLA on October 23 to hear from Scott Maravilla, Administrative Judge and mediator with the FAA, who will take you through what you need to know about alternative dispute resolution and how it’s changed in the time of COVID.

Why is alternative dispute resolution (ADR) important?

ADR provides a means for resolving your legal disputes faster than traditional litigation. It also gives you the opportunity to speak directly to the other party, and come up with sometimes novel solutions.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • The types of ADR available;
  • Its application to real life examples in the arts;
  • Best practices; and
  • In light of COVID-19, online mediation via Zoom or other platforms.

We will also discuss major considerations in choosing whether to elect mediation. In addition to artists, legal practitioners will benefit from a refresher and overview of ADR, which is particularly helpful to resolve disputes faster in probono representation. It will also help legal practitioners understand the new online arbitration process.
