David Leichtman

BIOGRAPHY:

David is the Founder and Managing Partner of Leichtman Law PLLC, a firm of trial lawyers with global experience who focus on their clients’ business goals. He founded the firm in April 2017 after over 20 years in large law firms. The firm performs trial work in business and intellectual property matters.

David has tried a variety of complex matters in federal and state courts around the country. The types of matters he handles include patent, copyright, trade secret and trademark cases, as well as other kinds of business litigation involving antitrust, contract, fraud, and other business torts. He has significant experience in a variety of industries including: financial services; life sciences; media, entertainment and information; consumer electronics; and the retail sector. His work also involves monetization of IP portfolios.

Leichtman Law is built on the premise that clients have the right to an honest and transparent evaluation of their cases, whether they are the plaintiff or the defendant. That evaluation includes an assessment of the value that can come from legal action.  It is imperative to prepare a theme for trial from the start.  A trial theme also needs to serve the goals of the client’s business, so that it drives the dispute towards a productive solution from the get-go, and at all times during the course of a matter.

The philosophy also centers around a belief that clients deserve budget certainty.  That means having matters handled efficiently and in proportion to what is at stake. Leichtman Law takes pride in holding to its budget agreements, and working out alternative fee and payment arrangements that make sense for its clients’ business as well as the firm, bringing predictability to a client’s legal spend.  By staffing cases appropriately with a seasoned partner and talented attorneys who make the clients’ business interests their priority.

Mr. Leichtman serves as Chair Emeritus of the Board of Directors for Volunteer Lawyers For The Arts; on the IPO Committee on Copyright Practice; and on the NYIPLA Committees on Patent Litigation and Inventor of the Year. He has been named a New York SuperLawyer every year since 2010. In 2016, The New York Law Journal selected him as a Lawyer Who Leads by Example for providing crucial pro bono legal services in New York. He is also a fellow, Litigation Counsel of America, a highly selective Trial Lawyer Honor Society, where he is also a founding member of its Intellectual Property Institute.
