I lead the US legal team for Yahoo media’s premium content brands, including Yahoo Finance, Yahoo News, Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Lifestyles & Entertainment. For the past almost 11 years, I have advised on major content deals and product initiatives undertaken by Yahoo’s media division, and have acted as a strategic advisor for our video, syndication, live entertainment, music and branded entertainment programming. My deals have included content partnerships with NFL, Associated Press, Reuters, ABC News / Disney, CNBC, ESL (Turtle), Live Nation, Clear Channel, VEVO, Warner Music, NBC Sports, Getty, NBA, Apple, Getty, Wenner Media, MLB, PGA Tour, Bloomberg, YouTube, Conde Nast, Hearst, and many more.
I have extensive experience negotiating global, complex content and technology transactions, as well as talent, video production, product integration, and syndication deals. I am Yahoo’s resident expert for copyright and music issues, handling all music licensing, product and strategic advice across the company. I was previously in-house counsel at The Firm, a music and talent management company in Beverly Hills, and, prior to that, an associate with the IP / tech transactions groups of Morrison & Foerster and at Skadden, Arps. I am based in Yahoo’s New York City offices.
In 2015, I was promoted to lead the team of lawyers and legal professionals that advise Yahoo! Inc. media and marketing teams. Yahoo media spans Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, our premier and top rated sites drawing hundreds of millions of daily users, as well as all of Yahoo’s lifestyle and entertainment properties, including video, livestreaming and original video production. Yahoo media properties are helmed by Martha Nelson and feature premier talent including Katie Couric, Joe Zee, David Pogue, Michael Isikoff, Woj and many more. I advise and oversee all content and marketing partnerships and major content and marketing related products and initiatives, including complex licensing, sponsorships, technology and commercial transactions. I also advise our Media clients on business, technology, IP and editorial risk management issues, conducting daily product and pre-publication review.
